Myles Smith shares 'really freaking painful' song that 'brings up a lot of trauma'

Many of Myles Smith's songs are romantic, but the "Stargazing" singer has now shared one that he says is so "painful" that just posting a little bit of it has sent his "anxiety through the roof."

On Instagram, he wrote of the song, called "My First Heartbreak," "This one's super close to my heart and my anxiety is through the roof. ... Still don't know if I'm ready to give it to the world. But here's just a little insight into who I am."

He goes on to write in the comments, "I've played this at some of my shows for the last 18 months. ... Someone close told me recently it might be time to share it outside those walls. So here's what I'm comfy with so far."

"It’s not a happy song. It’s really freaking painful and brings up a lot of trauma," he adds. "This is just me trying to get a little bit more real with you all - and trying to become like the artists who have helped me in life. Baby steps but I’m trying."

The song sounds like it may have been inspired by Myles' relationship with a close relative, from whom he appears to be estranged: "They say blood is thicker than water/ but I'm closer to the ocean than I am to you/  and I wish when I was younger/ I hadn't put all my faith into you."

He goes on to sing, "'Cause my first heartbreak looks a little bit like me/ He's got my eyes and a freckle on his cheek/ and I can't hide it, it's bitter and it's sweet/ 'Cause my first heartbreak looks a little bit like me."

Myles' 2025 tour begins Jan. 22 in Brooklyn, New York.
