If it takes you between 15 to 20 minutes to doze off at night, congrats! You’re most likely getting a solid, healthy night of sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation (yes, that’s a real thing)!
According to sleep experts, the length of time spent in bed before drifting off can tell us a lot about our overall health.
Falling asleep too fast could be attributed to exhaustion, getting “junk sleep” or even be a sign of sleep apnea, while taking too long could mean insomnia, stress or a sleep routine that isn’t the best.
Making your bedroom more of a place for rest and less for scrolling your phone or binging TV shows is a good idea!
There are several apps out there that could help, offering something as simple as white noise to guided meditations to help us unwind and head to dream land. I have a number of them on my phone, but the best is to find what works and stick with it for at least 21 days to help form a healthy habit.
Headspace, Calm and Hallow are all apps that I like. YouTube also is a great (and cheaper) resource. Search “sleep meditation” or something similar to find some options there.
De-cluttering your sleep surroundings can also help de-clutter your mind too, so those resolutions of tidying things up could help with your sleep. I know it’s something I need to work on!
